Organization Profile: National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is located in Mangalore City, Karnataka State, India. The Institute was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960 and upgraded as the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. Mangalore is the headquarters of the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada and boasts an important centre of education, business and trade in the state. Sri. U. Srinivasa Mallya, a visionary and a philanthropist, contributed immensely to the development of the coastal region of Karnataka, and his effort towards the establishment of KREC (now NITK) is the most significant one. In recognition of his role as the founder and architect of the institute, the campus premises is named after him as Srinivasnagar.

Project Title: Experimental technique to induce surface grain refinement through Laser Shock Peening on ECAP processed Mg alloy
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- B.E / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 60% aggregate score (6.5/10 CGPA) and M. Tech / M.E in Manufacturing Engineering/Technology or Metallurgical and Materials Engineering with a minimum of 60% aggregate score (6.5/10 CGPA).
- Applicant must be GATE qualified. A good GATE score will be an added advantage. Those
who have appeared for M. Tech / M.E and waiting for results may also apply and proof of M. Tech / M.E viva voce competition certificate has to be provided during the time of interview.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Work experience related to metal forming, LASER processing, material
characterization and analysis. - The candidate should know the fundamentals of materials and metallurgy.
- Ability to work in a team, good communication skills and experience in
experimental research
Project Duration: Three years or up to the termination of the project, subject to annual performance review. The candidate can be entitled to register for Ph.D. at NITK, Surathkal, if found suitable.
Emoluments:
- I and II year – Rs. 31,000 / month
- III year – Rs. 35,000 / month
