University Profile:

Apollo Hospitals Group (including Apollo Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals Education and Research Foundation and The Apollo University (TAU)) and the University of Leicester will be launching a new joint Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine (CDHPM) in January 2025.

The ambition of the Centre is to become an internationally recognised research centre in precision medicine and digital health by harnessing the research strengths and expertise of principal investigators of the University of Leicester and the Apollo Hospitals Group / TAU and the extensive longitudinal patient database of the Apollo Hospitals Group and health datasets in the UK and partners, to deliver better disease prediction and prevention, earlier detection and diagnosis and more effective and efficient management of multiple acute and long-term conditions in hospital and community settings. The focus of the Centre will be the use of advanced analytics, including AI, and the creation of digital solutions to advance its mission.

CDHPM will have hubs at the Apollo University in Chittoor and at the University of Leicester but will have a federated structure to enable researchers to access data and undertake research wherever they are based within the partner organisations. The Co-Directors of the Centre will be Professor Sir Nilesh J Samani, Professor of Cardiology at the University of Leicester and Dr Sujoy Kar, Chief Information Hospital, Apollo Hospitals.

CDHPM is now inviting applicants for the role of Deputy Director for the Centre based in Chittoor.

  1. Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine

Job Title: Deputy Director

Qualification: 

  • Knowledge of and experience in the domain of Data Sciences with relevance to healthcare.
  • Professional and administrative skills for running a research centre

The Deputy Director will report to the joint co-directors of the Centre. He/she will sit on the Executive Group of the Centre and on other relevant sub-groups or committees as appropriate.

Essential/desirable requirements:

  • An advanced degree (such as an MD, PhD, or MBA) in a relevant field (e.g., medicine, life sciences, business administration). A management degree / certification is desirable
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience in clinical research or related fields.
  • Deep knowledge of data science, clinical research processes, regulations, and industry trends.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Although this is a senior level of role, we will also consider applicants with lesser experience but a demonstrable potential to develop in the role.

Job Particulars – Deputy Director, Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine

Job Description:

  • Strategic Planning and Vision:
    • Develop strategies and operational plans for the Centre aligned to the Centre’s Vision Document.
  • Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Assume responsibility for budget allocation, resource planning, and financial management within the Centre.
    • Optimize resource utilization to achieve research objectives efficiently.
  • Operational Oversight:
    • Oversee all research activities within the Centre
    • Ensure appropriate reporting of the activities of the Centre and preparing the annual report for the Centre
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards.
    • Collaborate with research staff, inves gators, and study coordinators to streamline processes.
    • Design and execute Annual Opera ng Plan (AOP)
  • Quality Assurance and Process Improvement:
    • Continually assess services provided by the Centre.
    • Identify areas for improvement and propose innovative solutions based on data analysis.
    • Implement best practices and quality assurance measures.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Work closely with the co-directors and Executive Group and other functional departments of each university and healthcare systems (such as Clinical affairs, finance, and legal) to align research initiatives with organizational objectives.
    • Have responsibility for organizing and preparing papers for the meetings of the External Scientific Advisory Group, the Partners Network Forum and the Oversight Board.
    • Foster partnerships with external stakeholders, including research sponsors, academic institutions, and industry partners.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Manage and direct all activities within the Centre.
    • Lead a team of professionals, including researchers, data scientists, engineers, and administrative staff.
