Applications are invited for one fully funded position of a PhD Scholar on a sponsored project, under the Wipro WIN Research fellowship program on Zero leak cylinders – sealing systems. The selected candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of Dr. Aritra Chatterjee, Prof. Nilanjan Dey and Prof. Prabakaran Saravanan at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad campus.
Suitable candidates should check the eligibility criteria and qualification process of the PhD program of BITS Pilani (http://www.bitsadmission.com/phmain.aspx).
Scope of Work: – This project is based on Development and mechanical characterization of Self-healing polymers for sealant applications. Specifically, it will involve synthesis of self-healing polymeric materials. mechanical characterization of their elastic and viscoelastic properties and quantification of its tribological behavior (wear and friction) in different environments. The experimental results will be used to develop theoretical models using a nonlinear elasticity framework.
Eligibility:
Essential Qualification: M.E./MTech/M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Nanotechnology, M.Sc. (Material Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry), and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Polymers or Plastic technology with a First Class or equivalent grade. Interested candidates from other disciplines but having relevant skillset and experiences can also apply.
Desirable Qualification: –
- Prior Experience in experimental characterization, polymer synthesis and some familiarity with material modelling, experience with analyzing software like MATLAB & FEA based solvers can be added advantage.
- Candidates with a valid GATE, UGC/CSIR-NET, GRE score or any prior publication record.
Fellowship: The research scholar will be paid a JRF amount (37,000 for ME/MTech and 34,000 for BE/MSc (prior to completion of coursework)) with HRA (27%) + contingency (20000/-per year) and travel support (20000/- per year). The fellowship is expected to be increased to SRF amount after two years after review.
