Organization Profile:

The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is one among the eighth newer second generation of IITs. IIT Mandi is a research university now located in Kamand Valley, Mandi city in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

IIT Mandi’s campus (about 14 km from Mandi) is on the left bank of the Uhl River at Kamand and Salgi villages. There is great variation in the climatic conditions of Himachal due to extreme variation in elevation. The climate varies from hot and sub-humid tropical in the southern tracts to cold, alpine and glacial in the northern and eastern mountain ranges with more elevation.

Mandi has an average elevation of 1044 meters (3425 feet) and is situated on the banks of Beas. Mandi town falls in the lower most climatic zone of the Himalayas. These regions enjoys a wet-sub temperate climate of the foot hills (450-900 meters) as against the dry-cold alpine climate with snowfall at higher altitudes (2400-4800 meters). Average annual rainfall of Mandi is 1380 mm.

Since its inception the institute has been involved with various Research and Development (R&D) projects, the institute has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with many International and National universities, Companies, Research Centres, Organizations.

The institute became an IIT under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011, with the intention to expand the reach and to enhance the quality of technical education in the country. The Act was passed in the Lok Sabha on 24 March 2011 and by the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012.

Essential Qualifications:

• Professor
  • Ph.D with first class or equivalent in appropriate branch/discipline with a very good
    academic record throughout.
  • A minimum of 10 years teaching/research/ industrial experience of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, and IISERs or at an equivalent level in any such other Indian or foreign Institution (s) of comparable standards. The candidate should have demonstrated adequate experience of independent research in terms of guidance of PhD students, strong research record, including publications in highly reputed peer reviewed journals, patents, laboratory/course development, sponsored research projects and/or other recognized relevant professional activities.
• Associate Professor
  • Ph.D with first class or equivalent in appropriate branch discipline with a very good
    academic record throughout.
  • A minimum of 06 years teaching/ research/ professional experience of which at least three years should be at the level of Assistant Professor in an academic institution or Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer or equivalent position in a research organization or industry as on the date of application. The candidate should have demonstrated adequate experience of independent research in terms of guidance of M.Tech and Ph.D students, strong record of publications in journals of high impact factor, patents, laboratory/course development and/or other recognized relevant professional activities

Scale of Pay:

• Professor – Starting Basic Pay Rs. 1,59,100/-
• Associate Professor- Starting Basic Pay Rs. 1,39,600/

Application Procedure:

• The processing of the applications by the Academic Unit will be done in two cycles every year and the deadlines are respectively First Cycle – 31st Jan and Second Cycle – 31st August of the respective year.
• A candidate can apply to more than one School/Centre.
• The candidates should ensure that all the relevant information and documents have been uploaded before finalizing the application. After submission of the application, the candidate should keep a copy of it for his/her record. No hard copy of the application need to be submitted.
• Applicants called for interview will be reimbursed to and from travel expenses within India. However, the Economy Class Air Fare Tickets should be purchased through authorized agents Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC), M/s Balmer Lawrie & Company Limited (BLCL), M/s Ashoka Travels & Tours (ATT). Accommodation may be provided on payment basis in the Institute Guest House subject to availability.
• It is the responsibility of the applicant to keep his/her current employer informed about his/her application to IIT Mandi.

The Institute has the right to set different as well as higher norms, while short-listing, considering the specific requirement of the schools/centres.
