Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
The Chief Operating Officer (COO), reporting to the Chairman and Managing Trustee, with responsibility for the effective leadership and administration of the major operational areas of the Colleges under the group as well as for institutional planning and assessment; recommending and implementing policy; and is the officer in charge when the Chairman and Managing Trustee is away from campus fulfilling his external responsibilities. Direct reporting lines include finance and budgeting, technology, institutional research, buildings & grounds, campus sustainability, auxiliary services, human resources, and legal relations. The COO must be able to move seamlessly between broad leadership and hands-on engagement in the work of the Nehru Group of Institutions.
Professional Qualifications:
Desired qualifications include demonstrated experience in each of the areas of responsibility, including finance and institutional planning and strategy, whether achieved in higher education or through work in non-profit or for-profit organizations; creativity and flexibility and the ability to stimulate innovative thinking among a diverse community of staff and students; a desire to engage deeply in the community life of students, faculty, and staff; and an appreciation for and interest in life and the outdoors in spectacular rural northeastern Vermont.
Competitive candidates will have an advanced degree as well as an undergraduate or professional experience in any area and at least 15 – 20 years of experience in an academic set up.

- Thorough knowledge of financial, operational and administrative practices and procedures;
- Understanding of federal and state laws that govern higher education and reporting requirements;
- Integrity and a commitment to service leadership by example
Specific Duties include:
- Overseeing all aspects of the College in the Chairman and Managing Trustee’s absence;
- Supporting the Chairman and Managing Trustee in strategic analysis and planning, including advising the Chairman and Managing Trustee on the operational and fiscal impact of planning alternatives;
- Providing oversight and leadership of fiscal, human, and facilities resources;
- Short and long term strategic financial planning required to meet the objectives of the Institution;
- Designing and implementing procedures which result in timely and accurate financial reporting information;
- Managing facilities use and their development including master and sustainability planning, public safety, transportation and parking;
- Evaluation of and strategic advice on the impact of the introduction of new programs/strategies;
- Represent the Chairman and Managing Trustee at community and college affairs and with external organizations as appropriate;
- Oversee agenda and resolutions for Board of Trustee meetings;
- Perform other related duties as requested by the Chairman and Managing Trustee.
