Updated Job Description for Head of Applied Electronic, Mechanical, and Computer Technical Lab for our TVSA Academy School ,Hosur ,Tumkur and Thiruvannamalai

   

Main Purpose

The Head of the Applied Electronic, Mechanical, and Computer Technical Lab oversees the strategic direction, management, and operations of a multidisciplinary technical laboratory. This includes integrating computing facilities with electronic and mechanical systems to support educational, research, and development activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for the lab, integrating electronic, mechanical, and computing resources to align with organizational goals. Lead a team of technicians and engineers across disciplines.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and upgrade of electronic hardware, mechanical systems, and computer-based equipment. Ensure all equipment is in working order and compliant with safety standards.
  • Computing Integration: Manage networked computer laboratories equipped with advanced software for simulation, design, data analysis, and virtual environments. Ensure computing facilities support cloud computing, AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity applications.
  • Technical Support: Provide guidance to faculty members, researchers, and students in the setup and execution of experiments involving electronics, mechanics, and computing systems.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols across all lab facilities. Develop safety policies specific to electronic hardware handling, mechanical tools usage, and computer systems security.
  • Collaboration: Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among academic staff, researchers, and external partners. Communicate effectively regarding lab activities and needs.
  • Resource Management: Manage lab budgets for multidisciplinary resources (electronics, mechanics, computers), procure materials/equipment efficiently, and optimize utilization.
  • Innovation: Encourage innovation by supporting projects involving robotics, automation systems (e.g., CNC machines), embedded controllers, PCB fabrication techniques, cloud infrastructure setups, etc.
  • Training: Organize training sessions for staff/students on equipment usage (e.g., 3D printers or CNC machines), software tools (MATLAB/VMware), and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in managing multidisciplinary labs that integrate electronics, mechanics, and computing.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in electronic hardware systems.
    • Proficiency in mechanical design tools (e.g., CNC programming).
    • Strong knowledge of computing platforms (e.g., VMware Workstation).
    • Leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in electronics (e.g., PCB production) and mechanical systems (e.g., CNC machining).
  • Experience with computer-based simulation tools like MATLAB or LabVIEW.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., private cloud setups) and cybersecurity.
  • Ability to manage complex projects across multiple technical domains.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications using GPU programming.
  • Certification in lab management or safety practices.
  • Experience with advanced prototyping methods like stereo lithography 3D printing.
  • Understanding of RF systems or embedded microcontroller applications.

This role combines expertise across electronics, mechanics, and computing to create a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary technical environment.
