The Thirumuruga Kirupananda Variyar Thavathiru Sundara Swamigal Medical, Educational and Charitable Trust was established in the year 1981 by Salem based philanthropist and educationist Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram with an insight to serve the society in general and the needy in particular by imparting education.
Under the able guidance and directions of our Hon’ble Founder Chancellor Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram, The VMKV Arts and Science College formed its base as an Affiliated College under Madras University, Chennai in the year 1995 and later on Affiliated to Periyar University, Salem in the year 1996.In recognition of the Trust excellence in education, the university status was accorded in the year 2001 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The university is the 48th Deemed University in India. Later on in the year 2001, Vinayaka Mission’s KirupanandaVariyar Arts and Science College, Salem is brought under the Ambit of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation Deemed University, Salem and has been functioning as one of the Constituent units of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation Deemed University.
