Educational Qualification:
Master Degree in Library Science /Information Science/Documentation with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
Ph.D. Degree in library science/information science / documentation/archives and manuscript-keeping.
The Librarian must submit evidence of published paper, participation certificate for refresher or methodology course, successful research guidance from Head of Department of the concerned department, project completion.
Experience:
i) At least ten years as a Librarian at any level in University Library or ten years of teaching as Assistant/Associate Professor in Library Science or ten years‘experience as a College Librarian.
ii) Evidence of innovative library services, including the integration of ICT in a library.
Job Description
While attending in the library, the individual is expected to undertake, inter alia, following items of work:
- Library Resource and Organization and maintenance of books, journals and reports.
- Provision of Library reader services such as literature retrieval services to researchers and analysis of report.
- Assistance towards updating institutional website.
- Conduct of seminars/workshops related to library activity or on specific books or genre of books.
- Checking inventory and extent of missing books.
- Digitization of books database in institution having no computerized database.
- Promotion of library network.
- Systems in place for dissemination of information relating to books and other resources.
- Assistance in college administration and governance related work including work done during admissions, examinations and extracurricular activities.
- Design and offer short term courses for users. Publications of at least one research paper in UGC approved journals.
- The system of tracking user grievances and the grievances redressal mechanism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select, create / develop, manage, catalogue and classify library resources including electronic and printed resources.
- Manage acquisition of new library materials.
- Maintain library inventory and conduct periodic audits.
- Individually handle the budgeting, financial management and resource allocation.
- Manage / Supervise, recruit, train and support all library staff including library assistants, technicians and other support staff.
- Develop and manage library and information services, technology and media.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate information services, technology and media service requirements in the library.
- Develop / provide and maintain web-based services / Web Portal to the library users. Provide personalized library services to students and staff.
- Management of Library using Software like KOHA, SOUL, etc.
- Adopt new technologies including RFID, CCTV, Kiosk, Drop Box, etc.
- Provide Services based on Social Network Site, Lib2.0. for 24×7 services.
- Manage and maintain Networking, Remote Access, ILL from different Networking system.
- Development of Digital library using any of one of the tools like GSDL, DSpace, Eprint, etc.
- Train library users to effectively search the library catalogue, Internet and other electronic resources.
- Assist researchers with bibliographic literature searches using databases, printed resources, intranet and internet.
- Periodical orientation, hands-on-training for using various e-resources, etc. for students and staff.
- Be up-to date with new developments in the library sector and seek ways to improve customer satisfaction.
- Contribution towards academic course development and liaising with academic departments.
- Serve as an ambassador for the library by developing partnerships with other academic research libraries, and regional and national library associations.
